After our previous dog Ben passed away thins summer, it took us a little while before we were ready for another dog. However, with each of the kids going their separate ways, we finally thought we were ready. So, on Monday, February 16, 2004, we went to Lollypop Farm to find a new friend. Polly had been brought into the shelter several days earlier as a stray, so they could only guess at her age and parentage. Their guess was that she is three years old, and a Black Lab, Chow mix. She actually has much longer hair than you would expect for a Lab, but shorter than typical Chow. Oh, and she does have a very purple tongue! Her fur is pure black, and very soft. She is shedding a lot at the moment (she may take a lot of cleaning up after!), but I don't know how much of that is seasonal.
I'm not sure yet how much is because she is still in a bit of a state of shock from all the recent changes, but I have to say I have never met a more sanguine dog in my life. I don't know how much training Polly had before coming to the shelter, but when walking, she sticks about 6 inches from my leg. She is quiet as a mouse most of the time, though she did get lonely her first night at home.
The pictures here are from us picking her up at the shelter after her surgery and shots, with a couple pictures of the rest of the "farm".
Mindy and Phil came here for a weekend and brought their dog Dakota. Polly took a while getting use to someone else being in the house, and there were some growls and teeth shown, but I think they finally got more or less used to each other by the end of the weekend. Hopefully, as Polly gets more comfortable with being here, the two of them should get along better.
