This was a "working vacation", with the intent to assist the IT team there on a quick, high intensity project. The actual technical goal was to migrate the population of users there from a Windows "Workgroup" to a Windows "Domain". Since the group has grown to between 100 and 120 users, they had long outgrown the useful size of a Workgroup (which maxes out at somewhere around 20 users). In addition, they really needed some of the managament tools made possible by a Domain.
The trip was a huge success, both personally and technologically. We were able to migrate every user in the office with minimal distuption, and encountered no major roadblocks. We were also able perform some smaller tasks at the same time, and to encourage the team there. It's a small group, but they are doing some pretty amazing things on tight resources. It is a great team to work with!
(Of course, being down there in February/March, it was a little odd sitting in 60° to 70°F degree sunshine, and reading the news reports of snow and ice back up North. When we came back, the temperatues were hovering at around 0°F. A bit of a shock... ;-) However, it seems that we're over the hump, and it's finally starting to warm up.)
