Trip to OMUSA Headquarters, 2003

The skies were a bit overcast when I took these pictures, but this at least gives an idea of what the OM USA (Operation Mobilization) headquarters look like. They are working on a substantial addition, which will more than double the size of the building. They are working as funds come in, but currently, they have enough to enclose the entire addition.

Ron is the head of the IT group there. The office supports between 50 and 70 people, most of whom work on Linux based, diskless NC's ("Network Computers"), though there are a handful of Windows based laptops thrown into the mix, just to keep things intersting. Greg (a consultant from Lightsys) is the head technical guy, in charge of software, security, and whatever you need to keep a small but heavily used system like that up and running. Mark and Lorane work primarily as help desk, customer support, book-keeping, and all the hundreds of other jobs necessary to keep the users from killing the technical guys... ;-) Ron's job is trying to maintain some level of sanity in the group, and making sure everyone is going in more or less the same direction.

Dave is a Taylor University student working at the OM office over the Summer on the Centrallix application server, which is a product Lightsys is developing in conjunction with OM and the University.

A couple of the pictures here are (near) duplicates, since I was playing around with the new Fujifilm FinePix 3800 digital camera and comparing natural light with flash.
